Basics of Dell Latitude Series Laptops

Dell Latitude series is an American brand of laptop computers. It is a business-oriented product, targeted at corporations, healthcare, education, and government markets. The Inspiron and Vostro series are aimed at smaller companies. The Latitude competes directly against the HP EliteBook and Lenovo ThinkPad. The “Rugged Extreme”, “XFR”,” and “ATG”, models are primarily competing with Panasonic’s Toughbook “rugged” laptops.

Overview of the product-

The Dell Latitude series removed the initial letters from newer models (as with Latitude 7480 whose predecessor had been E7470) and was named the successor to the inspiron 15 3000 keyboard Latitude E D, C, and the X series. In the beginning 1990s, all Latitudes went under the CP and XP models with modifiers at either end. CP M233, XPi

The high-end line used to be the 6 series. It was comprised the C6x0/D6x0/ and E64x0 lines. But, as of 2015, this line is no longer available and has been replaced by the 5 series or the 7 series. The 15″ premium line was originally the 8 series. But, the E series merged it with the 6 series. (Model numbers are C8x0/D8x0). The 5 series was the entry-level series. However, as of 2015, the primary Latitude laptops lines are the 5 series and 7 Series. As the budget model, the 5 series has been replaced with the 3 series. Dell has since removed the E from their Latitude line. This was because they switched to a USB C/Thunderbolt system over the Port analog pins-system docks. Now, the models are numbered. : Latitude 5480, 5570. The size of your laptop’s screen is indicated by the second number in the model (As in sve151a11w keyboard, 5470, 7280).

Here’s the current Dell Latitude lineup.

Latitude 3xxx series. Budget models are available in 13.3″/14″/15.6” trims.

Latitude 5xxx series. Mainstream line. Replaces the 6000 series. Shares same chassis with Mobile Workstation models. available in 11.1″/12.5″/13.3″/14″/15.6″ trims.

Latitude 7xxx series. Ultrabooks in “Premium” trims, 12.5″/13.3″/14″ only

Latitude 9xxx series. Laptops with 2-in-1s and Ultra-premium specifications. These laptops come with 14 and 15 inch displays. They also have 5G WWAN.

The business focus of Latitude computers makes them different in terms of their feature sets. The business market demands that they have, such as security features such smartcard or contactless smartcards and TPM security, vPro, AMD Dash management, DisplayPort (as against HDMI), Docking stations and support of legacy standards, lead to them often including these features.

Latitude ON can also be enabled on some models. These options can be selected when the laptop is being configured. Latitude ON works as a system within an operating system. It requires an add-on module, which has its own microprocessor. This allows the laptop operate in the same way as a Netbook.

Existing Laptop models

Up to 2016, Dell used “E-series” as its name. New 2017 models will drop the “E.”, and Dell E-Port Replikator with it. In February 2017, the following information was available. There are three Latitude series available: 3000, 5k, and 7k. The 3000 series, which is entry-level, is aimed at students and small businesses. The 5000 series are mid-range. It also includes a high performance subseries, whose model designations begin in 1. These devices are available in higher-TDP (45w), discrete and NVMe SSDs. The 6000 series stood above the 5k series. The Ultrabook computers made up the 7000 series, which were introduced in 2014 by the Latitude E7440/E7240. They replace the existing high-end Ultrabook 6000 series. Latitude Mobile Workstation versions used 5000 Series instead of 6000 Series.

Dell offers the Education and Rugged Series Latitude computers in addition to the 3000, 5500, and 7000 series. The Education series laptops have been designed for use by educational institutions. They can be used for office or internet-based applications. The Rugged series laptops can be used in the same way as the Latitude XFR computers. They have been designed to be more durable.
