According to a legend, about 300 years ago, after a war of rain and floods, a heavy black slab of rock struck the banks of the Pansanala river, which once flowed through the village. When the locals touched the boulder 1.5 meters from the stick, it started bleeding from it. That night Shani Dev came in the dream of the village head and told that this slab was his own idol. Shani Dev ordered that the slab should be placed in the village, where he would reside. Shani then blessed everyone and promised to save the village from danger.

Shani Shingnapur, a village with a population of 5000 odd people, holds the iron stone slabs responsible for protecting the place from all dangers. The iron slab is an expression of Lord Shani.
