What is Rudraksh

Rudraksha is actually the kernels of the fruit on its tree. This tree is found in many parts of India. It is abundant in the forests of Assam, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. There is a cashew-shaped one Mukhi Rudraksha in Rameshwaram, located in South India.

Countries like Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia etc. are the major producing countries of Rudraksha, from where they are imported in large quantities in India. The Rudraksh of Nepal are of large size and those of Malaysia are of small size. Nepal’s Rudraksha is of the best quality, especially Ek mukhi Rudraksha.

The word Rudraksh is derived from the combination of Rudra and Aksha. Rudra means Shiva and Aksha means tears means tears of Shiva. Rudraksha is believed to have originated from the water point of the eyes of Lord Shiva. According to the Puranas, a prayer was made to Shiva to get rid of the demon named Tripura.

Shiva was absorbed in severe penance. When he opened his eyes, some water (tears) came out of it and fell on the earth and Rudraksha trees grew there. Therefore, Rudraksh is worshiped as a part of Shiva and it is worn.

Rudraksha Benefits

It can be worn by Sanyasi, householder, male or female. Rudraksha is believed to provide spiritual and medicinal benefits. Wearing it gives positive energy. It provides peace to the mind and helps in awakening Kundalini. For centuries, sages have also been wearing it for the same reasons.

Rudraksha is considered to be the giver of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha and remover of obstacles like ghosts. Wearing it at the time of full moon, Mahashiv Ratri, new moon and eclipse etc. is considered auspicious.

Wearing a Rudraksha garland cures physical ailments and gives long life. Along with this, this rosary is considered to destroy sins and give devotion and liberation.

How many faces of Rudraksh –

The stripes lying on the Rudraksha are called faces and on the basis of their count they are given names like Ek Mukhi Ek mukhi rudraksh, Panchmukhi Panch mukhi rudraksh, Sapt Mukhi Sapt Mukhi Rudraksh etc. Rudraksha can be from one Mukhi to 21 Mukhi. From 15 mukhi to 21 mukhi Rudraksha has now become extinct. One Mukhi Round Rudraksha is the most valuable and rare.

Ganesh Rudraksh –

On some Panchmukhi Rudraksh, the trunk-like shape of Ganesh ji emerges from it, it is called Ganesh Rudraksh.

Gauri Shankar Rudraksh –

Some Rudraksh are naturally attached, they are called Gauri Shankar Rudraksh. Wearing it or worshiping it as a symbol of Gauri and Shankar is considered beneficial for married life.

If there is one small and one big in the connected Rudraksh, then it is worshiped as Maa Parvati and Ganesh ji. It is called Gauri Ganesh Rudraksh.

Identification of real and fake Rudraksha

Put Rudraksha in water and boil it for half an hour. If there is no difference of any kind, then it should be considered real. Putting it in water and boiling it opens the fake Rudraksh made by adding it. If other artwork has been done then that also comes to the fore.

Some people sell plum kernels by making them exactly like Rudraksh. When boiled in water, the kernels of the plum become soft, this can identify the real fake.

Although the Rudraksha that sinks in water is real, but some people make the fake Rudraksha worth drowning too. Fake Rudraksha made of Sisam wood also sinks. Hence this test is not very reliable.

If you scrape the Rudraksh with a needle, the fibers come out. If this happens then consider Rudraksh real otherwise fake.

If the raised surface of Rudraksha i.e. its plateaus do not match with each other and are of different sizes, then it should be real. The bulges of Nakli Rudraksh are found to be similar.

– The stripes of real Rudraksha are half crooked while in fake they are found straight.

If the color becomes dark after putting it in mustard oil, then it is Asli Rudraksh.

People are cheated by making Shivling, Trishul or snake naturally by making art on Rudraksha. One should not get greedy after seeing such shapes.

– Often Panchmukhi Rudraksha is sold as one face or more face. If you look closely, doubt is certain. Therefore, thorough inspection should be done carefully.

Take care when wearing Rudraksha

Rudraksha should be worn on Monday after washing it with raw milk and Gangajal and chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivay”.

Take special care to maintain the purity of Rudraksh.

It should be taken off at night and put back on after bath in the morning.

Women should not wear it during menstruation.

— Rudraksh should not be exchanged with any other person.

Small size Rudraksh is considered good.

The person wearing Rudraksha should stay away from onion, garlic, meat, alcohol etc.
