How To Create and Set Up Your Online Course

How To Create and Set Up Your Online Course

This post will show you how to create a course in your Teachable school, as well as how to add and change basic course details. If you’d want additional information on how to put up mini-courses, we have a blog post that can help.

Creating a Course

You’ll be prompted to create your first Teachable course after you’ve created your school. You don’t have to do this right away, though. You can always return at a later date to create your first course—or to add more courses.

To create a course for your school, follow these steps:

Click the Courses tab in the admin sidebar in your Teachable admin area. You can also skip to step 3 by pressing the addition (+) icon next to Products and selecting the course option.

In the top right corner, click the New Course button.

This will take you to a new course area where you can enter the Course Title and select a course author from a drop-down menu.

Click the Create Course button after inputting the course’s information. The course will be created and added to your Courses tab, and a pop-up modal will appear to confirm it. Continue by pressing the Enter key.

This will take you to the Curriculum tab, where you can fill in the blanks with your course material. You can also return to the Information tab by clicking the back arrow.

Publish & Preview Your Online Course

You can publish, unpublish, preview your course sales page and course curriculum page, landing page, or delete your course at any time from the Information tab of your course.

Click the Publish Course button to make your course public. Within the Curriculum tab of the course, a popup will appear asking if you want to publish the course and any unpublished lectures.

To publish your course, select Yes, publish all, which includes the sale, checkout, and thank you pages, as well as all lecture pages in your Curriculum. This will make your course visible to the rest of your school’s students.

No, you can publish merely the course – including the sales, checkout, and thank you pages – later, while keeping any unpublished lectures hidden in your Curriculum. This will make your course visible to the rest of your school’s students.

If you don’t want to publish the course right now, click Cancel.

The More submenu button, located next to the Publish Course button, allows you to take extra steps. These are some of them:

Preview Sales Page – This lets you see the course’s sales page as it would appear to a student when they first arrive.

Preview Curriculum – This feature allows you to see the course’s curriculum as it would appear to a student when they purchase it.

Duplicate Course – to make a copy of a course, duplicate it within your institution. All course content and media, pages, compliance settings, and author assignments will be duplicated. After duplication, you can alter any of these.

Delete Course – removes a course from your school’s curriculum. Please keep in mind that this is a one-time action.

Branding Your Online Course

You can customise a thumbnail logo (available for both 2.0 and 1.0 schools) and/or a promo film in the Branding section (available for 1.0 schools only). Similarly, with the iOS app, you can use alternative photos (as different proportions are recommended):

Course Image- A little image that is used to represent your course across your school like Theakgamer; it displays to your students in the course curriculum’s sidebar and in your school’s course directory. We recommend utilising a JPG or PNG file with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.

Promo Film (1.0 schools only) – A short promotional video that appears on your course’s sales page in the Course Hero Header block. We recommend using video with a resolution of 1920×1080 or 3840×2160 (MP4, M4V, or AVI) and a file size of no more than 2 GB. We also advocate compressing your videos as much as feasible in general.

Click the iOS tab to choose an image for your course’s thumbnail and background pictures in the iOS app. Thumbnail images for the iOS app should be 300×300 pixels JPG or PNG files, while background images should be 1080×607 pixels JPG or PNG files.

Click the Change button to change any photos or videos you’ve uploaded in the Branding area. To get rid of it, click the Reset button.

Online Course Author

You can designate an author from your school to be the author of your course in the Author section. On your All Products and My Products pages, as well as in the Featured Products block, the author’s name will appear. The author’s name, photograph, and bio will also appear in the course’s My Instructor area. Learn more about how to develop and manage authors at your school.

You have the choice of assigning an author or a bio without an author in the drop-down menu:

Authors – Your school’s bio is already linked to a specific user/author account. This implies the linked user will get a cut of sales and will have access to an author dashboard. If you don’t want to create a separate author account for your product, you can select to put owner bios in this list. Author revenue shares are not available to owners.

Bios without Authors – The bio is not linked to any particular user or author account at your institution. This implies there isn’t a separate user account for collecting revenue or managing the course.
