6. Psychonauts 2

If Microsoft has indeed bought the studio behind Psychonauts 2 in 2019, it should be noted that this sequel is not exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem. Indeed, the development had already started several years earlier after a successful participatory funding campaign. If we could have some fears about the final quality of such a project, we have to admit that Double Fine Productions took its time in order to deliver an experience faithful to the DNA of the (short) saga. Whether it’s through its charismatic characters, its colorful aesthetics or its cleverly dosed humor, this new Psychonauts ticks all the boxes to please a large audience.

7. Outer Wilds

This story is not necessarily known to the general public, but it should be known that Mobius Digital was founded by a certain Masi Oka. The Japanese actor is known for his roles in several successful series such as Heroes or Hawaii 5-0. But it is to Alex Beachum and his team (about a dozen people in total) that we owe Outer Wilds. This game is based on a fascinating and slightly destabilizing concept that makes it an extraordinary experience.

Outer Wilds takes us to a fictitious star system and more specifically to the planet of Âtrebois which serves as the starting point for this space epic. Quickly, and thanks to a space program, the player finds himself at the controls of a small ship allowing him to explore the planets of the system in question. The main goal is to understand what happened to the lost Nomai civilization. It is thus an artistically very successful open world that opens to the player after a few minutes of play.

8. DOOM Eternal

The franchise published by Bethesda Softworks experienced an almost unexpected resurrection with the episode released in 2016. Assuming its gritty aspect even if it means relegating its scenario to the background, this game has assumed the legacy of the first opuses that entered the legend. DOOM Eternal is logically in the continuity even if it allows itself some surprising deviations. It remains a game mastered from start to finish, with ultra enjoyable gameplay to boot.

DOOM Eternal is the direct sequel to the opus that arrived in 2016. The DOOM Slayer is back to kill as many demons as possible on our poor planet that didn’t ask for so much. The storyline fits in a handkerchief, but fans who are attentive to details will be able to read the many documents to collect throughout the adventure to learn more about the events in progress. But the game focuses on the intensive slaughter of demons. For this, our avatar has a classic and destructive arsenal with some surprising new features…

9. Tales of Arise

For a long time, the Tales of franchise has remained rather confidential in the West, but it has recently gained a little fame. It owes this gain in popularity to the announcement of the 17th opus of the main series. It must be said that when it was first presented, Tales of Arise was a real eye-catcher with its shimmering colors, its welcoming heroic fantasy universe and its soundtrack superbly composed by Motoi Sakuraba. When it will be launched in September 2021, Bandai Namco’s software has clearly not disappointed!

The epic of Tales of Arise transports us to the planet Dahna where life is not good. Indeed, the inhabitants of a neighboring world called Rena have simply enslaved the local population in order to plunder the resource-rich lands. Our hero, Alphen, will lead the revolt and will meet his future allies scattered all over Dahna. But since we are in the presence of a JRPG, many side stories are told in parallel to the main quest. The story also progresses through sumptuously staged cinematics, sometimes worthy of the best anime from Japan. Nothing has been left to chance by the development teams who want to appeal to both regulars and newcomers to the genre.

10. Control

Once again, the Swedish studio offered us a new franchise rather than a sequel by releasing Control in August 2019. It was also the first title to be released on almost all supports while the two previous games from the Finnish team were Xbox exclusives at their launch. However, we are indeed in the presence of a pure Remedy product with a singular universe and an action-oriented gameplay with supernatural powers as a bonus.
