Benefits of a sleeping bag for your baby

Safety:  The sudden, unexplained death of a baby under the age of 12 months is known as SIDS. While little is known about the condition, it has been discovered that factors such as putting a baby to sleep face down or even using extremely soft bedding can increase the risk of SIDS

Parents have been putting their infants to sleep in sleeping bags as a result of preventative measures guidelines warning against putting them to sleep with blankets.  The sleeping bags are basically sleeveless sacks that protect the shoulders and contain the rest of the body, with the arms on the outside to keep the sack from rising over the head.

Why a front down zip works well for a sleeping bag:

There are many reasons that a sleep bag should still have a front zipper. It advises parents and guardians to place the baby on his or her back to sleep peacefully. For example, many research has suggested that if a baby is rocked to sleep and then placed in a front zip sleep bag, the parents/carers will place the baby on its back. If the zip is on the side, parents/caregivers should place the sleeping baby on its stomach and zip the sleep bag up around them. With a side zip, parents/carers can fail to completely zip the sleep bag, resulting in a rather large neck space and the risk of the baby slipping inside.

Other benefits of using a sleeping bag:

  • If you’re unsure whether or not a baby sleeping bag or sleep sack is right for your child, consider the following upsides:
  • Baby would be comforted and kept warm without any need for extra bedding.
  • Baby will be comfortable all night because there are no extra organic cotton bassinet sheets or blankets to kick off in a baby sleeping bag, so he or she will not become cold and maintain a stable temperature
  • Reduce the number of times your baby wakes up because he or she is cold. Your baby is less likely to wake up from the weather if the temperature remains consistent throughout the night
  • However, they may still wake up if there are issues with settling down for sleep such as uncomfortable fabric choices. Use organic cotton for your kids to keep their skin comfortable.
  • Since a sleeping bag is a positive sleep relation, going from a bassinet to a cot, and then from a cot to a bed, is better because the sleeping arrangements stay the same.
  • Finish the bedtime ritual in your baby’s sleeping bag – this helps you to snuggle your baby before putting them in their crib, making resting even simpler.
  • Establish a healthy sleep relationship – Your kid can soon form a sleep association with their sleeping bag, which ensures that placing them in their bag is a strong reminder that it’s time for them to sleep.
