Treatment and procedures

Laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) is extensively used on patients with primary hepatocellular carcinomas. Be it a malignant or a benign tumor with liver cirrhosis is known to have excellent results when treated with laparoscopic liver surgery. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The patient’s position is decided according to the site of the tumor being treated. During the procedure, a laparoscopic tower is placed, which contains a camera and light source. Many tissue coagulators containing electrocautery are placed in the surgical theaters. Along with all these an ultrasonic imaging machines is placed in the surgical room to diagnose and assess the condition better.

The procedure is started when a small incision is made over the abdomen. A laparoscopy is inserted inside the body to reach the surgical site. Placements of trocars are done for the removal of the tissue or fluid removal from the damaged site. The liver resection is then done using a laparoscopic mobilizer, the nearby vascular supplies are assessed and the damaged portion is cut. Intraoperative bleeding is one of the most common complications during laparoscopic liver surgery.

Enhanced technical skills and experience have significantly reduced this complication. Once the procedure is done, the patient is kept on assessment for 7-8 days. The post-operative recovery majorly depends on the patient’s physical strength. Physically stronger people usually have an easier recovery than weaker ones. Walking 15-30 minutes a day, having a healthy and nutritious diet can speed your recovery to several folds.

The cost of any liver surgery is significantly cheaper in India when compared to the US, UK, and Singapore. Laparoscopic surgery is a less invasive procedure than a liver transplantation procedure. The range of laparoscopic surgery lies between INR Rs 33,250 – 77,000.   A laparoscopic liver surgery cost is influenced by several factors like admission fee, doctor fee, age of the patients, type of laparoscopic surgery, medical condition of the patients, admission room the patients opted for, and post-surgical complications that are involved.

Along with all these the examination tests such as x-ray, ECG, ultrasound, etc. The cost of surgery also varies in different geographical areas of India.  For example, surgery cost in Bangalore and Gurgaon lie between INR Rs 35000-70000. The cost of surgery in Mumbai may reach up to INRRs77000 in some of the major hospitals.

Laparoscopic liver surgeries have been considered a blessing for liver ailments patients. Developments of new technologies, evolution in instrumentation, and enhanced professional skills have made laparoscopic surgeries the most preferred treatment. It’s a more feasible and less invasive procedure as compared to open procedures. It is always better to consult the physician before drawing to any conclusion. They recommend the best treatment procedure after proper assessment of your health condition and the extent of your liver damage.
